Here are some facts about dirty water and bad sanitation in poor and developing countries.

  • The average person in North America uses 158.5 gallons of water a day, compared to a person in a developing country who uses 2.6-5.2 gallons a day.
  • About 1.4 million children die every year from dirty water, that is about 4,000 a day or one every 20 seconds.
  • Dirty water has claimed more lives then war has.
  • 84% of the people who die each year from dirty water are children from the ages of 0-14.
